Injection Safety

Unsafe injection practices —like syringe reuse and misuse of medication vials— has been a frequent cause of outbreaks involving bloodborne pathogen like hepatitis C virus and bacterial infections like methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus. Discovery of unsafe injection practices requires prompt investigation and consideration for patient notification. 

Safe Injection Practices are a set of recommendations within Standard Precautions, which are the foundation for preventing transmission of infections in settings where needles are used, or injections are performed.
